The Music Monday 2019 Awards - Round 1.2

It's time to return to the Music Monday Awards, folks!

In the previous round, we had nine people submit their votes for the best songs of the first four months of 2019! Let's check out the results, which may or may not surprise you.

January: It was close, so very close . . . but 5 people preferred A Hat in Time's "Main Theme." But c'mon, what's there not to love about an upbeat song that'll get you pumped for an adventure?

February: It appears that 6 of the voters would prefer to visit "Dragon Roost Island" over riding a dragon. The song just makes you wanna visit a quaint island and go exploring while it sets the mood in the background.

March: Another close win with this one. 5 out of the 9 participants thought "The Kraken" was the better choice. I mean, if it grabs onto you, it's definitely not letting you go, so the track kind of covers both bases.

April: Yet another hairsbreadth of a victory. "Grape Garden" was slightly more popular with 5 people. Who can blame them? It's an absolutely gorgeous and relaxing piece of music.

Your participation so far is greatly appreciated, but the show is far from over! The time has come to move on to the next four months. Why don't we check out the competition?

May

"Beyond the Mirror" from the Zelda Cinematica album

versus "Instruments of Cyanide" by DAGames

June

"Venice Rooftops" from Assassin's Creed II

versus "History Maker" by Dean Fujioka

July

"Pursuit - Cornered" from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

versus "Rainbow Road (Synthwave Remix)" from the Mario & Chill album

versus "Brave Enough" by Lindsey Stirling

August

"Yoshi Village" from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

versus "Fireworks" from Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Well, it's back in your hands! Which songs will you vote for? Don't forget, you only have two weeks to vote, which means that February 2nd is the last day you can submit any votes for this round. Thanks for your continued participation!

Enjoy! Do tell me if you think this round is easier or harder than the last one. (I definitely think it's more difficult, and I already know I'm gonna have to make some tough choices . . .)

  1. So glad Dragon Roost Island made it to the next round. :D I just love that song so much!

ALL RIGHT. Let's do this thing!

MAY: "Beyond the Mirror" from the Zelda Cinematica album

Is anyone surprised? XD OF COURSE I gotta go with the Zelda song. I mean, "Instruments of Cyanide" was SO unique. I really liked its style. But Zelda music just...AWK. It's my fave.

JUNE: "Venice Rooftops" from Assassin's Creed II

Oh my word. I almost just said "PASS" for this one. This was so haaaard! Both of these songs are so DIFFERENT but equally as good. "History Maker" is insanely catchy and has a great music video. Buuut I finally went with Assassin's Creed because, well, the music from those games are amazing. Such good writing music!

JULY: "Brave Enough" by Lindsey Stirling

Ugh. Having THREE choices for this one made it all that much harder. I was so close to choosing Rainbow Road, because that song brings back my childhood of playing Mario Kart, and it's so much fun having a synthetic version of it. That's just really unique. Buuuut Lindsay Stirling music is the type of music that makes me want to ART. It makes me want to create and do things. It's so beautiful and epic and magical. I had to go with it.

AUGUST: "Fireworks" from Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Two Nintendo songs. Why must you do this to me?!?!? They're both so happy! But Animal Crossing music never ceases to make me smile, so it won in the end. This was another suuuuuper close one though.

THERE. I DID IT. *collapses* I think this one WAS harder than the first one. So many close calls! I'm STILL second guessing my choice for June. But... NO. I'm just gonna hit publish and be happy with whichever one wins! XD

    1. I knew you'd be happy with that. XD But yes, it definitely is a fantastic Zelda--one of the best!

No, no, we're really not surprised at all. XD The medley/cover/whatever-you'd-call-it is pretty dope. I especially love it since it includes the Lorule Castle theme from A Link Between Worlds.

It's a VERY difficult choice, for sure! I'm surprised you were even able to vote for something. I have no idea what I'm going to choose. XP

Oh yeah, the rounds with three choices are the worst, in the best way possible. I mean, it's hard to argue with that logic. Lindsey Stirling is great at what she does.

Nintendo music versus Nintendo music will always be the ultimate decision. XD For real though, Animal Crossing music is life.

Oh, this round is certainly harder than the first! I guess we'll see how it all plays out . . .

  2. Okay, I'm finally sitting down to vote in what I am dubbing the impossible round. Let's see how this goes . . . *shakes my head*

May: ARGH. THIS IS ALREADY IMPOSSIBLE. I absolutely love both options . . . But I think I know what my choice will be. I'm voting for "Instruments of Cyanide," largely because it's a huge inspiration for my upcoming series, The Titan Saga, the sequel to The Portal Chronicles. And the musical style is just perfect. This was very, very close, though!

June: Again, this is another very choice. They're both so good! I'd be perfectly happy to see either one win. *sighs* I think I'll vote for "Venice Rooftops." I love the music from the Assassin's Creed series, but this track is particular is one of my top favorites in the entire franchise. Can't really go wrong there, eh?

July: This round is a bit surprising for me, because it's super tough . . . yet at the same time, my answer is obvious. I'm voting for "Pursuit - Cornered." The Ace Attorney music is just so freaking good, and this song is not only a very memorable one, but it also feels nostalgic. Plus, I gotta give that series all the support it can get!

August: *lets out an incoherent growl* WHAT. A. LOVELY. CHOICE. I. MUST. MAKE! Both of these songs are the best, and I'd be happy to see either one win. I'm voting for "Yoshi Village," for a couple of different reasons. That section of Partners in Time was one of my favorites, and the callback to the original Yoshi's Island music just can't be beat!

Oh my word, that was an intense round. Wonder if 1.3 is going to ease things up or not . . .

  3. So... Only two of my song choices from the last round won... I'm okay with that. *sniff*
*whispers* I will get my revenge...

    Here are my votes:

May: "Beyond the Mirror" from the Zelda Cinematica album
June: "History Maker" by Dean Fujioka
July: "Rainbow Road (Synthwave Remix)" from the Mario & Chill album
August: "Fireworks" from Animal Crossing: New Leaf

    1. I mean, every song here is a good one, so it doesn't matter which one ends up winning--though I have my personal preferences too. Wait, what'd you just say?!

      Thanks for voting! :D

  4. OH yay! All the ones I voted for made it to the next round! ^^

    Anyway, let’s do this!!

May: Hoo, boy, this is tough but I’ll go for Beyond The Mirror from Zelda Cinematica.

June: History Maker by Dean Fujioka! The Assassin’s Creed one WAS pretty cool but man, you can’t beat an anime song. XD

July: DANGIT, YOU DIDN’T. THIS IS THE HARDEST ROUND EVER. ;_; ALL OF THEM are really nostalgic for me, even though I haven’t seen much Ace Attorney yet! Dangit, darnit, I want to pick them all!
    ...I’ll have to go with Brave Enough by Lindsey Stirling & Christina Perri! But man, don’t do this again. It’s too hard. ;-;

August: Fireworks from Animal Crossing: New Leaf!!!! I remember when I first heard it during the fireworks show, I didn’t want to quit the game so I just ran around and appreciated the music. It’s too fun and the whole music style is right up my alley!!!

Can’t wait to see the results!

    1. How fortunate! We'll have to see how this next round goes down for you. :P

      Zelda music is always great.

Anime music is also great. XD

Everyone seems to find that round painful. It's fantastic, but also terrible. Fantastically terrible? Terribly fantastic? One of the two. Maybe both. XD

The fireworks shows were always a lot of fun, even if they were simpler events. I suppose the music does a lot to make them that way.

They're obviously up at this point! :P

  5. May: Instruments of Cyanide (I really love both, though... XDD)

June: History Maker (You know that anime will always win for me. O.O)

July: AHHHHHH, TOO HARD TO PICK. *huff huff* Okay, I'll go with Brave Enough, but Cornered was like 0.1% from winning. DX Why must you be so cruel to us, Josiah???! XDDD

August: Fireworks (it's too cute. ^3^)

Thanks for hosting this, Josiah! It's so fun seeing which tracks win!!! :O

    1. Don't you hate it when you have to decide between two songs that you love?

Of course. Anime songs are always a win. XD

Because it's fun to see everyone suffer over these difficult choices! Then again, I'm suffering from them too, so . . . :P

It is a really nice, quaint song, for sure. ^_^

You're welcome! I'd have to agree with you there.

    August:Yoshi Village

Some good choices were made here. Thanks for voting!

  7. Yuss, more great music - and most of my favourites won from last round, perfect! Thanks for this, Joe.

    Okay, here we go...

May - Beyond the Mirror from Zelda was awesome and gets my vote.
June - It's gotta by History Maker by Dean :)
July - The exciting Pursuit - Cornered from Phoenix Wright. (the Lindsey video wouldn't play for me for some reason! I'll have to look it up on Spotify.)
    August - Yoshi Village!

    Megs :P

    1. Well, you're welcome, but I didn't do much in terms of which songs won last time. It's not like I can rig this or anything . . . >_> XD

Thank you for voting! You also get mad respect from me for picking "Pursuit - Cornered" over "Brave Enough."
