Expelling the Cold /// Music Monday #94

So I discovered that my other two wintery Music Monday posts were called "Embracing the Cold" and "Enjoying the Cold." Figured I might as well keep up the accidental pattern for the final chilly tune.

"White Palace" from Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight is one of those indie games that managed to get super popular and is well-loved by seemingly everyone who plays it. Known for its extreme difficulty and recognized by its beautiful art style, it's a strong testament to what an independent studio can do. I have yet to properly play the game, but what little I have played has proven to be challenging already. What I do know for a fact is that I love the OST.

Christopher's score captures so many moods, from the blood-pumping intensity of a boss fight to the gentle exploration of calmer areas. Judging by the tone of this song, I'm assuming the White Palace falls under the latter, but I'm not sure. The screenshots I saw of it look very pretty, and the music really adds to its solemn, pristine appearance.

I could totally hear this playing on a winter day, sky overcast and snow swirling all around. But what is the exact mood of the song and the scene that it paints in my mind? Is it simply serene, or does it carry sorrow to it? Maybe both, maybe neither. Whatever the case, the instrument choices work well for both that of an elegant palace and a snowy day.

Not really sure what else to say because I'm really tired as of when I'm writing this (Saturday). If you guys think of it, I could use a bit of prayer. I slipped and fell on some ice at work the other day, and on my way down I twisted my leg. I may have sprained some muscles, and it's been giving me some pain and draining me of energy. I'd appreciate any thoughts and prayers.
