Music Monday #17

If the title of this post somehow didn't give it away, it's time for some more music!

Today, our song is . . .

"The Tale of Tormak" from LEGO Legends of Chima
Composed by Anthony Lledo

In case you don't know, Legends of Chima was a three-season show that featured anthropomorphic animal tribes. While some of the stuff was kinda New Age-ish, it was a decent show. I'd still like to finish it to see how it ended.

The music, however, is absolutely fantastic! It's far more mature than what you'd think would play in a kid's TV show. The track I chose for today is one of my favorites from the two soundtracks.

Because I haven't seen much of the third season yet, where this song plays, I have no idea what the tale in question is even about. I love the movement between the three moods in the music. It starts off with something quieter and suspicious. Then it changes to sorrowful, with a beautiful flute playing a mournful tune. The rest of the track is hopeful and adventurous, making it a very well-round piece of music.

But if I simply played this song for you without telling you where it's from, would you guess an animated LEGO show? I don't think so, and the genius of it. Music helps so much in creating a story on the big screen, and the maturity in Chima's soundtrack adds depth to the whole thing. In fact, LEGO has always composed mature music for their movies and shows--from what I've seen and heard, anyway.. Even The LEGO Movie soundtrack, the bounciest, "childish" one, has the right "adult" tunes at the right moments.

If you haven't listened to or bought any of LEGO's scores, I highly encourage you to. They're some of my favorites, and I'll definitely be featuring more of them on my blog. Not all of the Chima tracks are available on YouTube, but they are all on Spotify. Just thought I'd mention that. The same goes for the Ninjago show's music as well.

What did you think of this track? Better than what you thought it would be? Have you listened to any of the LEGO soundtracks before? Do you have a favorite LEGO movie or TV show?

  1. Oh wow! I would have never guessed this was from a LEGO show, no. It sounds like something from a theatrical movie! I absolutely love when shows put effort into their movies. It ups the quality so, so much.

This was really epic! I've never seen any of the LEGO shows, so I had no idea they had such awesome music.

    1. Didn't think so. If I didn't know better, I would have said it's from a movie as well. Music is definitely one of the most important aspects in cinematic storytelling. If it sucks, I think the whole project suffers.

They do have some great tunes. I'll be sure to share more.

  2. Are you sure you've got the right show? This does NOT sound like LEGO music! It's epic in scope and tone, and the contrast (and transition) between the separate parts of the song are amazingly good! If all the LEGO soundtracks are this good, I'll have to find some more to listen to. :D

Welp, I'm running off to add this to most of my Spotify playlists (as usual for Music Mondays.) XD

    1. *double-checks* Yeah, I'm sure. XD I know, right? You'd expect it to be something totally different. But LEGO has always struck me as a company that strives for excellence, and that shows in their music. Don't you worry; I'll happily suggest more in the future.

You do that. XD I think most of the music I've suggested so far is available on Spotify, except for the Nintendo music. And maybe some other stuff. :P What's your Spotify username, by the way?

    2. Okay, good. :D Well then, I'll have to pay attention to LEGO music . . . actually, I'll probably just wait for you to recommend more. XD

Yes, just about all of them - I know there were a couple that weren't, but I don't remember which ones. Thankfully, all my absolute favorites are! :) I go by bria.stacyn. Yes, I know, it's very inventive. XD

    3. You could do both, right? Because I obviously can't recommend EVERYTHING I like on these posts, seeing as I only do 26 of them a year. XD

Like I said, they were probably the Nintendo ones. Nintendo, unfortunately, doesn't release their soundtracks to the public, which I think is a missed opportunity. Well, we're friends on there now, so yay! XD

  4. That's a really cool track- thank's for sharing!
I'm not familiar with all the Lego soundtracks, since I've only seen The Lego Movie. But this post has inspired me to start listening to The Lego Movie soundtrack, and you're right- although it can be fun and silly at times, it's also quite powerful.

    1. You're most welcome!

Yeah, it's actually really good. While I wouldn't say it's my favorite of the LEGO soundtracks out there, I can't deny that it's masterfully composed.

  5. That's a pretty epic track! I watched a few of the LOC episodes when they were released. I liked them a a lot. My favourite LEGO Movie is probably... Well, the LEGO Movie. xD The LEGO Batman and Ninjago movies are pretty cool too!
And yeah, I should really listen to more LEGO soundtracks. :)

    1. It is indeed! I watched the first two seasons, but only a couple of episodes in the third. If you had more time, I would say that you should watch Ninjago, but you don't, so I won't. XD I've definitely enjoyed all three movies!

You should. They've got some fantastic tracks. :D
